Direct Vent Gas Fireplace & Stoves

Why choose a direct vent gas system?  The American lung association discourages the use of
vent-less fireplaces for hearth and environmental reasons. They recommend homeowners choose
only sealed, direct vent gas fireplaces to preserve indoor air quality and to prevent by-products
such as carbon monoxide, soot and nitrogen dioxide from entering your home.  In direct vent
installation, combustion air is drawn into a sealed firebox and flue gases are exhausted through a
co-linear or co-axial intake/exhaust pipe.  Direct vent fireplaces also prevent excess moisture from
building up in your home.  All the direct vent gas fireplaces sold and installed by Ron's are sealed
and meet the guidelines of the American Lung Association's Health House program.
Wood Burning Fireplaces
A wood burning fireplace remains a very popular choice and adds significantly to the value of any home.

Most fireplaces are no longer traditional brick and mortar, but are engineered and pre-built by major
manufacturers.  More than seventy-five percent (over a half million each year) of all fireplaces installed
each year are factory-built and shipped to the construction site.

A factory-built fireplace is actually a firebox enclosed within a steel cabinet.  A blanket of insulating air
keeps the outer wall cool, land spacers surrounding the cabinet allow it to be installed in close proximity
to the wood framing (hence the name "zero-clearance fireplace").  They pass rigorous testing standards
established by Underwriters Laboratories and the American Gas Association and have an excellent
safety record.

Factory-built fireplaces are surprisingly inexpensive.  They use a safe, lightweight chimney and do not
need any additional footing or other structural support.  Because they have fewer limitations than
site-built masonry fireplaces, they can be easily and safely installed in almost any room.  Factory-built
fireplaces are available in a range of sizes, and can be open on one, two ("see-though" and corner
models), three ("peninsula"), or four sides ("oasis").  Brick, stone, marble and other facing materials can
be combined with your choice of mantels to suit your decor.

The Isokern brand has been part of the construction industry for over sixty years. Known for their
exceptional insulation value and ease of installation, Isokern products were introduced in the United
States in 1987. For the past 19 years, Isokern has been at the forefront of modular masonry hearth
systems in the construction and remodeling industries.
Wood Burning Inserts & Free Standing Stoves
Wood stoves today are returning in popularity thanks to more than a decade of research and
development by stove manufacturers. Porcelain, soapstone, and cast iron are a few of the
materials they are using to create unique and functional wood stoves. They also come in a
medium gloss porcelain enamel finish that allows a wide variety of designer colors. They are
an acceptable alternative to fireplaces and have some added features and benefits.

Today wood stoves come in all shapes and sizes and can be used for indoor and outdoor
installations. Antique wood stoves especially, have enjoyed a rebirth in popularity due to their
low cost and stylish designs. They burn wood more efficiently and cleaner than traditional
types of wood stoves. In fact, most wood stoves developed even as early as the 1990s can
provide a near smokeless burn, producing maximum heat while using less firewood. U.S. EPA
standards in the 90s have ensured that modern products produce less than 7.5 grams of
smoke per hour. That's more than 5 times less than the smoke emitted by similar products in
the 1970s and 1980s!

Electric Fireplaces
Installing a fireplace once meant adding chimneys, venting, gas plumbing, and masonry work. But
the advent of electric fireplaces coupled with advances in cabinetry and technology have made
them a smart choice for apartment dwellers, condo owners, and even homeowners who want
instant glow and ambiance without knocking holes in walls, running flue pipe, or hauling logs.

Electric fireplaces offer a cozy ambiance and warmth. Logs glow, simulated flames flicker, and heat
is pushed into the room by an internal fan. You can select "flame only", "heat only", or
heat-and-flame combinations on most models. These fireplaces can be operated from
mantle-mounted controls or by remote, and the brightness of the flames can be adjusted to suit
your mood on some models. The amount of warmth generated varies among manufacturers and
models, but normally around 4,500 BTUs of heat is generated from an average unit. However,
electric fireplaces are not intended to replace a heat source. They are built to provide comfort and
a focal design element in a room.

Electric fireplaces can be installed anywhere there's a plug and a wall. Unlike traditional fireplaces,
electric fireplaces don't require chimneys or venting. Thus, they provide flexibility to renters, condo
owners, even home and business owners who want a plug-in fireplace that can go anywhere.
There are no installation costs, no additional wiring requirement and no clearance or approval.

Vent Free Fireplaces
Vent-free fireplaces have several advantages over vented models. Since they
don't require any bulky vent pipe or chimney, ventless appliances have much
more flexibility in terms of placement and can be used in small homes a where it
would be impossible to install a vented fireplace. And, if you're searching for
efficiency, a vent-fee fireplace is definitely the way to go. Vented units lose a
significant amount of the warm air they produce up their chimneys, but ventless
fireplaces are entirely self-contained, allowing all of the heat to remain inside the
home.

The Illuminations Electric Fireplace is a breakthrough product which features an eclectic fusion
of organic mediums: translucent calcite stone, bee’s wax, sand, or glass and magnetic impulse
flame technology that leads the viewer to an inevitable conclusion - an Interior Decorator has
just transformed a room with an exquisitely proportioned panoramic single-sided or see-through
fireplace with a stunning collection of glowing stone, frosted, and wax sleeve candelabras.

However, these are not real fireplaces, and these are not real candles. They are the
Illuminations Electric Fireplaces by Fireplace Xtrordinair. The warm soothing candle flames
appear to gently bend and flicker to an invisible draft. This movement is actually created through
a Patented electronic devise that creates a magnetic impulse in an electronic switch circuit which
is transferred to the ‘‘Flame’’ pendulum causing it to move independently of the other ‘‘Candles’’
in the fireplace. The contour shape and feathered coloration of the ‘‘Flame’’ pendulum appears
as an almost perfect imitation of a candle flame.
